Terms of Use

These terms govern your use of the Signalmux interpreting service. By requesting an interpreter, you agree to them.

The service.

Signalmux connects deaf and hard-of-hearing people with qualified sign language interpreters over video. Where you are already in a meeting on another platform, such as Zoom, we can send an interpreter into that meeting at your request.

Who may use it.

The service is provided to organisations under a service agreement, and to the people those organisations serve. You do not need an account of your own to request an interpreter.

Your responsibilities.

Only request an interpreter for a meeting you are entitled to attend and to bring an interpreter into. Do not use the service to harass an interpreter or to facilitate unlawful activity. Where a meeting has a waiting room or requires a passcode, admitting the interpreter is the responsibility of the meeting’s host.

Interpreters.

Interpreters are qualified professionals bound by the confidentiality standards of their profession. They interpret what is said; they do not advise, advocate or participate in the substance of your meeting.

Recording.

Signalmux does not record, transcribe or store the content of your meetings. If you or another participant record a meeting, that recording is yours and is governed by your own organisation’s policies and by the law where you are.

Availability.

We aim to connect you with an interpreter as quickly as possible, but we do not guarantee that an interpreter with a particular skill or specialty will be available at a particular moment.

Third-party platforms.

When an interpreter joins a meeting on another platform, that platform’s terms and privacy practices apply to the meeting itself. Signalmux does not control those platforms and is not responsible for them.

Fees.

Fees, if any, are set out in the service agreement between Signalmux and the organisation providing you with access.

Intellectual property.

The Signalmux service, software and branding remain our property. Nothing in these terms transfers ownership to you.

Disclaimer and liability.

The service is provided as-is. To the maximum extent permitted by law, Signalmux is not liable for indirect, incidental or consequential losses arising from your use of the service. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law.

Suspension.

We may suspend or end access where these terms are breached, or where doing so is necessary to protect an interpreter or another user.

Changes.

We may update these terms. Continued use after an update means you accept the revised terms.

Governing Law.

These Terms are governed by the laws of Canada. Where you use the Service from elsewhere, any mandatory consumer protection rights available to you under your local laws continue to apply.
